Why we exist
Buying solar in South Africa is hard. Every installer's website looks the same. Every quote uses different equipment. Every salesperson promises the same thing. Meanwhile, PowerForum is full of homeowners who got burned — equipment substitutions, missing CoCs, warranty claims denied, and systems that don't do what was promised.
We built Solar Quotes SA to fix that. We research equipment from real owner experiences, not spec sheets. We only work with PV GreenCard certified installers who have verifiable track records. And we publish what we learn — honestly — so you can make informed decisions.
How we vet installers
Every installer we work with must meet all of these requirements:
PV GreenCard certified
SA's solar quality assurance programme — backed by SAPVIA. Installers pass theoretical and practical assessments and follow SANS 10142-1 wiring regulations.
SAPVIA registered
Members of the South African Photovoltaic Industry Association — the industry's governing body with a binding code of conduct.
DoEL registered electrician
A Department of Employment and Labour-registered installation electrician must sign off every job. This is the law — we verify it.
20+ verified residential installs
We check Google Maps, HelloPeter, and direct customer feedback for evidence of completed residential projects — not just commercial portfolios.
CoC issued on every job
No Certificate of Compliance means the system is not legal. We verify that installers issue CoCs promptly and don't delay.
Clean reputation record
We monitor HelloPeter, Google reviews, and PowerForum for red flags: equipment substitution, warranty denial patterns, disappearing after payment.
Our research methodology
The information on this site comes from:
- NERSA tariff data — official Eskom and municipal tariff schedules, updated each time NERSA approves changes
- SA solar forums — PowerForum.co.za and MyBroadband, where real owners share experiences (and frustrations) with specific equipment
- Installer pricing surveys — aggregated, anonymised pricing data from installers across Gauteng and Western Cape
- SAPVIA / PV GreenCard databases — official directories cross-referenced for installer verification
- NRS 097-2-1 type-test certificates — the official list of inverters approved for grid connection in SA
We do not accept payment from manufacturers for equipment recommendations. Installers pay us per qualified lead — but we do not show preference based on what they pay. You get matched to installers who serve your area and meet our vetting criteria. The fee is the same regardless of which installer you choose.
